Authorities responded to an early morning 911 call, arriving at the Forest Park train station to discover four victims. Three were declared dead at the scene, while the fourth was transported to Loyola University Medical Centre in Maywood, where they too were later pronounced dead, stated the police.

Based on surveillance footage, Chicago police released a description of the suspected offender, and a suspect was subsequently detained along with a recovered firearm, according to the police statement.

Police official Christopher Chin described the situation as horrific, noting it was particularly distressing to encounter on a Monday morning during the Labour Day holiday. The GVA also reports at least 11,463 deaths due to firearms violence.
In June, the U.S. surgeon general issued a significant advisory, labeling gun violence a "public health crisis" and advocating for comprehensive firearm controls, historically blocked by political resistance. Firearms have recently surpassed motor vehicles as the leading cause of death for Americans aged one to 19, according to the report.
