Frank Lampard has been officially announced as the new head coach of Coventry, marking his return to the sidelines 18 months after departing from Chelsea. He takes over from Mark Robins, who was relieved of his duties following nearly eight years at the helm, with the team currently positioned 17th in the Championship, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Lampard has been without a coaching role since his interim position at Chelsea concluded at the end of the 2022-23 season. This marks his third consecutive Premier League managerial stint, having previously held roles at Chelsea and Everton. However, Lampard is no stranger to the Championship, having kickstarted his coaching career with Derby in 2018, where he led the team to the playoff final in his sole season.

Lampard's inaugural match with Coventry will be on Saturday at home against Cardiff, who are trailing by just one point. He has inked a two-and-a-half-year contract and will be supported by assistants Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, with whom he has previously collaborated.

Doug King, Coventry's owner and executive chairman, expressed confidence in Lampard's abilities, stating, "Frank honed his skills in the Championship and understands the demands of this league to achieve success. His subsequent experiences at Chelsea and Everton will equip him with the precise knowledge required to elevate our talented squad to the highest echelons of the game, which is our club's ultimate ambition."
