A free demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio, the latest turn-based JRPG from the creators of Persona, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Progress made during the demo will seamlessly transfer to the full game when it launches in October. The demo offers players a chance to experience the prologue of this upcoming fantasy RPG and can be replayed multiple times if desired.
The opening moments of Metaphor introduce the fully voiced protagonist and their fairy companion, Gallica, as they journey to the Royal Capital. However, their caravan is unexpectedly attacked, forcing them to traverse the desolate outskirts of the city on foot. Their mission then shifts to enlisting in the royal military to deliver a crucial message. This detour effectively showcases the game's combat and exploration mechanics.
Fans of Persona will immediately notice the stylish menus and UI, along with the familiar turn-based combat system. However, there are notable differences. For instance, when confronting stronger enemies, players must exploit their weaknesses in turn-based battles. On the other hand, weaker foes can be swiftly defeated in real-time combat. Instead of using Personas, characters in Metaphor channel various Archetype classes, offering over 40 options to choose from.
In a recent hands-on preview of Metaphor: ReFantazio, we found ourselves captivated by Atlus' latest creation, unable to put it down. The game's intriguing metanarrative choices and the integration of Persona's social-sim systems further piqued our interest.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is set to release on October 11 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
