Ajman-based engineer Mohammed Al Najdi serves as a beacon of inspiration. The 35-year-old Egyptian expatriate began his career in the UAE with a monthly salary of Dh3,000. Now, six years later, he manages a construction company with annual contracts valued at approximately Dh4.5 million. Al Najdi, the owner of Al Maamar Al Najdi Construction Company, attributes his achievements to the equal opportunities provided in the country, free from discrimination based on gender, race, color, or nationality. "Success is achievable but requires effort," he shared with Khaleej Times.
Holding a civil engineering degree from Mansoura University in Egypt, Al Najdi arrived in the UAE in 2018. He recounted, "My friends described this country as a land of dreams, which is why I came here. It was an adventure of discovery, a step into the unknown. Soon, I secured employment."
As with many newcomers, Al Najdi encountered challenges and had to adapt. He noted, "Despite both being Arab countries, the UAE and Egypt differ significantly in customs, traditions, laws, and regulations." Al Najdi worked during the day earning Dh3,000 and studied UAE engineering laws at night. Tragically, after a year, his employer closed due to administrative issues. Yet, Al Najdi remained hopeful, viewing it as a new beginning towards his dream.
He recalled, "I immediately considered starting my own business, especially after a Sheikh recognized my dedication. He entrusted me with projects at his palace, supporting me generously until I completed them flawlessly." Over the next two years, Al Najdi persisted, saving diligently to fund his goal. "Life was challenging, so I worked tirelessly to save over half my salary after meeting obligations and bills. My family was my greatest support, emotionally and morally, enabling me to pursue my dreams," he explained.
Through perseverance and self-reliance, moving between emirates, Al Najdi founded his company from the ground up, without resorting to bank loans. He noted, "Within six months, we saw significant growth, thanks to our precision, quality, and commitment to deadlines, setting us apart in the contracting and architectural sector."
His company offers diverse contracting services, including villa construction, building projects, and interior and exterior finishing. Currently, Al Najdi oversees contracts worth about Dh4.5 million annually. He credits his success to the country's support for entrepreneurs, enabling them to realize their dreams.
Al Najdi emphasized, "The UAE offers vast opportunities. All one needs is to seize the state-provided chances, whether you are an Emirati or an expatriate."
