The Galeón Andalucía continues to be anchored at St. Katharine's Docks, right in the center of London, having arrived there earlier this week after navigating up the River Thames and passing through the iconic Tower Bridge.
In a project led by the Nao Victoria Foundation, the vessel, a faithful replica of a 17th-century Spanish galleon, aims to relive the historical journey that inspired its creation by circumnavigating the globe. It serves as an 'ambassador for Andalusia,' showcasing its rich maritime history and culture to an international audience as a 'true floating museum.'
The ship will remain in the British capital until October 6th, marking the end of its European tour, which has seen it visit various cities in the United Kingdom and ports in France, the Netherlands, and Germany throughout the year.
This European voyage follows an extensive tour of some of the most significant ports 'on four continents,' having sailed 'over 100,000 nautical miles across oceans and seas worldwide,' with stops in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila, and New York. To date, more than 150,000 people have stepped onto its deck.
