Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is scheduled to reveal his verdict on Thursday regarding whether Erik and Lyle Menendez should be resentenced, having already served over 30 years in prison. This decision follows Gascón's recent acknowledgment that his office is re-evaluating their 1989 murder case due to newly uncovered evidence suggesting the brothers were sexually abused.
Gascón will share his decision during a press conference later Thursday afternoon. The brothers, aged 18 and 21 at the time, were convicted of murdering their parents, Kitty and Jose, using shotguns in their Beverly Hills mansion. Both were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Relatives of Kitty and Jose convened a press conference outside the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in downtown Los Angeles, accompanied by attorney Mark Geragos, urging for the brothers' resentencing. The case has garnered renewed national interest thanks to a Netflix series, 'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.'
