An Israeli strike claimed the lives of 10 Palestinians and injured at least 20 others on Saturday at Abu Assi school, which is currently housing displaced families in western Gaza City's Shati refugee camp, according to medics who spoke to Reuters. Meanwhile, the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza reported on Saturday that at least 43,799 people have been killed in over 13 months of conflict between Israel and Palestine's Hamas. The ministry noted that this toll includes 35 fatalities in the past 24 hours, and stated that 103,601 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip since the war began when Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Hamas's October 7 attack led to the deaths of 1,206 people, predominantly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Vowing to prevent Hamas from regrouping in northern Gaza, Israel initiated a significant air and ground assault there in October this year. The Israeli army announced earlier on Saturday that its troops were continuing "their operational activity" in the northern areas of Jabalia and Beit Lahia. The military also reported that "over the past day, the troops continued to operate in the Rafah area, eliminating numerous terrorists, dismantling terrorist infrastructure sites, and locating a substantial amount of weapons in the area" in the southern territory.
