The inaugural GCC Menopause Summit, held on World Menopause Day, brought together healthcare professionals and industry experts to share their insights with an audience of over 350 delegates at the prestigious Museum of the Future. The opening discussion marked significant progress in addressing a topic that has been stigmatized for generations. The panel explored the mental, physical, and emotional impacts of menopause.
Healthcare professionals discussed various treatments to manage menopausal symptoms, ranging from psychological support to different hormone replacement therapies, as well as the effects of diet, nutrition, exercise, and sleep. They emphasized that there is no universal approach to managing these symptoms.
The discussion on the workforce revealed that eight out of ten menopausal women feel unsupported in their workplaces, with one in ten having left a job due to symptoms. The panel highlighted how minor adjustments to workplace policies can make a significant difference, preventing the loss of talented women from the workforce.
Mubaraka Ibrahim, the chief AI officer at Emirates Health Services, spoke about the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in caring for menopausal women. The summit was founded by menopause educator Sharon James, Katy Holmes, CEO of British Chamber of Commerce Dubai; Sophie Smith, founder/CEO of Nabta Health; and Dr. Harmeek Singh, founder of Plan B and chairman of Women's Run.
