Those who have been following the automotive scene are aware that Genesis, Hyundai's luxury division, has been making significant strides in the industry, carving out a space in the luxury market previously held by the German big three. Recently, the Korean carmaker updated its G80 mid-size luxury sedan, and I was invited to the regional launch to see it firsthand. The launch event that evening was a glamorous affair, with attendees ready for social media moments, showcasing the refreshed Genesis G80, a symbol of creativity and style, distinct from traditional European designs.
The G80 features a distinctive two-line light signature, a fastback roof, and a sparkling paint job, available in Royal and Sport variants. The Royal variant boasts a two-line crest grille and 20-inch wheels, while the Sport variant features a blacked-out double-layered crest grille and expanded air intakes. The following day, we experienced the G80's comfort firsthand during a 80-kilometer drive. The interior is a luxurious cockpit with soft leather surfaces and advanced technology, including a 27-inch OLED display. The car's quietness is a hallmark of luxury, providing a serene environment for daily commutes. The rear seats offer legroom akin to business class, complemented by a Bang & Olufsen sound system and a massage function.
The G80 offers a choice of engines: a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or a larger 3.5-liter turbocharged engine, both delivering impressive power. The AWD system ensures stability even in wet conditions. That evening, we dined with Genesis personnel, discussing topics far removed from everyday struggles, highlighting the community and lifestyle that come with owning a luxury vehicle.
