Game of Thrones first aired 13 years ago, and HBO continues to explore its universe through spin-offs, with House of the Dragon being the most prominent and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on the horizon. Now, George R.R. Martin, the author who birthed this fantasy realm, has divulged some information about a Game of Thrones spin-off that was once in development but was later abandoned. On his blog, Martin discussed his recent journey to Amsterdam and how the city influenced his creation of Braavos in the Song of Ice and Fire series. Martin then casually mentioned the potential Braavos-centered show.

"One of these days, I need to write that story about Braavos we were developing for HBO," Martin noted. "They put that one on hold a couple of years ago, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean I won't return to it… after Winds of Winter is completed, of course." In Game of Thrones, Braavos is the birthplace of the Faceless Men, who trained Arya Stark in the art of assassination and disguise. She resided there for an extended period before returning to Westeros to exact her revenge. However, there is still much to uncover about Braavos in potential prequels or sequels.

Regarding The Winds of Winter, it is the sixth novel in Martin's saga that inspired the Game of Thrones television series. Martin has been working on it since at least 2011, yet a release date remains uncertain.
