In a highly energized environment with a substantial crowd of spectators, the Mubadala Arena hosted the amateur contests on Monday as part of the 16th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Competitors from prestigious academies and clubs worldwide engaged in the white and blue belt categories.

Bruno Barreto, coach of Commando Group Academy, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance. "I’m delighted with our team’s results so far. We secured strong positions in the competitions, finished second as the best academy in the youth division, and dominated in the amateur events," Barreto stated. "I’m optimistic that our athletes will maintain their excellence as we move into the masters and professional competitions. We’ve clinched the professional title twice previously, and we aim to replicate that success."

This marks my sixth participation in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. I previously competed here and won gold in 2019. Now, my focus is on mentoring the younger generation, assisting them in achieving notable results in various championships."

Mirsad Vilic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who secured gold in Men’s GI/White/Master 4/ 94KG, representing Fight Sports – Ruckus JJ, remarked: “This is my inaugural appearance here, and I’m elated to win gold. I began Jiu-Jitsu two and a half years ago and have participated in multiple European championships to hone the skills required for a competition of this caliber. The organization was impeccable, and the competition was fierce. I eagerly anticipate returning next year."

Leonardo De Fazio of Italy, who claimed gold in Men’s GI/White/Master 1/ 56KG, representing Jesters Jiu Jitsu, added: “This is my second time in the championship. I competed last year but did not make the podium. This year, I intensified my training and participated in other championships. My primary objective was to reach the podium, and I’m pleased to have accomplished that."

I observed a significant enhancement in the championship compared to last year, both in audience numbers and participation. This elevated the competition level, making this achievement even more significant. I will certainly return next year."
