Tech Mahindra and FIDE's collaborative initiative, the Global Chess League, has announced the six franchises for the highly-awaited second season, scheduled to take place in London from October 3 to 12 at the Friends House.
The franchises set to compete in the second season are Alpine SG Pipers, Ganges Grandmasters, Mumba Masters, PBG Alaskan Knights, and the reigning champions from the inaugural season, Triveni Continental Kings. The first Global Chess League was conducted in Dubai.
This upcoming season will introduce a new team, American Gambits, owned by influential figures including Prachura PP, Venkat K. Narayana, and renowned Indian cricketer and chess aficionado Ravichandran Ashwin. Sameer Pathak, CEO of the Global Chess League, expressed his excitement, stating, "We are delighted to introduce the teams for the second season of the Global Chess League. We have secured the ideal partners to enhance the league's international presence and eagerly anticipate delivering a thrilling chess season to enthusiasts globally. The teams were instrumental in making the first season a grand success, and we foresee their influence and renown expanding further in the chess community."
The competition will feature a distinctive team format with six players per team, comprising two elite female chess players and a young prodigy. This innovative format, which has generated significant buzz among fans, will be broadcasted on prominent OTT and television platforms worldwide.
