The God of War TV series on Prime Video is undergoing significant changes. A recent report confirms that Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios are restarting the show from the beginning after several key members of the creative team departed the project.
Deadline reported that showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have left the series. These individuals had reportedly submitted multiple scripts for the show, which were well-received by both Sony and Prime. However, the decision was made to pursue a different creative direction.
The God of War series was announced in December 2022 but has since seen no substantial development updates, causing fans to speculate and worry about its status. Moving forward, the report indicates that Sony and Prime are now seeking to assemble a completely new writers' room for the show. Consequently, it is unlikely that the God of War TV series will debut anytime soon.
Despite these changes, Deadline notes that God of War remains an 'important asset' for Prime. Meanwhile, the God of War game series continues to thrive, with 2022's God of War Ragnarok being the latest entry, concluding the Norse saga. As one of Sony's most popular and beloved franchises, it is only a matter of time before a new game is announced.
In addition to a potential new God of War game, developer Sony Santa Monica may also be working on a new intellectual property.
