Three years ago, Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition made its debut with several issues, not all of which were resolved or corrected. In the view of many gamers, this collection of Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas fell short of the original releases. However, nearly two years since the last update, players on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC should observe some notable enhancements.
As reported by IGN, Rockstar has quietly released an unannounced update for GTA: The Trilogy, aligning it more closely with its mobile counterpart. Among the most striking modifications are improvements to the game's lighting, shadows, reflections, and draw distance. Collectively, these updates bring the visual presentation closer to that of the original games. Social media users have already highlighted many of the significant changes.
One of the more discreet adjustments allows players in GTA 3 and Vice City to move and run while using shotguns and automatic weapons. Furthermore, San Andreas' diverse weather patterns have been reinstated. Grove Street Games, the developer responsible for the much-criticized ports of GTA: The Trilogy, has been removed from the opening credit screens of the console and PC versions. This likely indicates that Grove Street was not involved in the latest fixes.
Regrettably, Rockstar has stated in the patch notes that this update is exclusive to the current generation of consoles and PC. Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will not receive this update.
