Grand Theft Auto VI is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but what will the game look and perform like on the comparatively less powerful Series S? While the specifics remain uncertain, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick appears unconcerned.

During Take-Two's recent earnings call, Zelnick addressed questions about the Series S, which is inherently a lower-spec console compared to the Series X and PS5. Anticipated to be a technically groundbreaking game, GTA VI has raised concerns among some that it may not deliver an optimal experience on the Series S.

"We support the platforms where the consumers are, as long as they are viable, and we manage to support platforms despite varying tech levels. Our labels excel at this. I'm not overly worried," Zelnick stated. He further noted, "If one platform loses value, there's always another. For instance, we're witnessing significant growth in PC right now."

Zelnick emphasized that PC will become "increasingly important" for Take-Two's business, adding that supporting PC is "not complex for us." This has led many to speculate about a potential PC release for GTA VI, although it remains unconfirmed.

"The bottom line is we are selective about which platforms we support. We ensure the tech functions as long as the audience is substantial enough to justify it," he explained. A former Rockstar developer suggested that if a PC edition of GTA VI is in the works, it likely won't launch simultaneously with the console versions, following the precedent set by GTA V and Red Dead Redemption II.

The analyst's query about GTA VI on Series S came amid ongoing discussions about the performance disparities between the Series X and Series S. Several game developers have commented on the Series S's relative lack of power and the potential drawbacks of supporting it. For instance, Baldur's Gate 3 faced delays on Xbox due to issues with the Series S edition.

Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World initially deemed bringing the game to Series S "impossible" due to technical constraints. Despite the Series S outselling the Series X in the US initially, the Series X now accounts for 51% of all Series X and S consoles sold. The Series S initially had an edge due to pandemic-related supply chain issues, but Microsoft anticipates the Series S will outperform the Series X by the end of their generation due to its lower price.

GTA VI is slated for release in Fall 2025, a timeline that Take-Two reaffirmed during their latest earnings presentation.
