Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI was honored with the 'Most Wanted Game' award at the Golden Joysticks this week. During the acceptance speech, a developer hinted at 'absolutely mind-blowing things' coming from the game. 'There's an incredible amount of people doing amazing things on Grand Theft Auto 6. Absolutely mind-blowing things, so it's a real honor to be able to come up here and accept this award on everyone's behalf,' the developer stated (via Rockstar Intel).
The win for most-anticipated upcoming game was expected given the massive hype surrounding GTA 6, slated for release in Fall 2025. The game is also nominated for the Most Anticipated award at December's The Game Awards. The Golden Joystick's Ultimate Game of the Year award went to Game Science's Black Myth: Wukong, while Team Asobi won Studio of the Year for Astro Bot.
GTA 6 is set in Vice City, a fictional representation of Miami, Florida. Its first trailer was released in early December 2023, but Rockstar Games has yet to release additional footage or official details about the game. With GTA V, originally released in 2013, having sold an astonishing 205 million copies, GTA 6 has big expectations to meet. GTA Online's microtransactions have been highly profitable, and it remains to be seen how GTA Online will be affected by the release of GTA 6. Stay tuned to GameSpot for the latest updates.
