Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola celebrated his side's first three points in this season's Champions League following a 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday. Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and James McAtee all contributed to City's comprehensive dismantling of the Champions League newcomers, securing them four points after two matches.

Although the substantial scoreline provided a potentially crucial boost to City's goal difference, which was previously marred by a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan in their opening game, Guardiola emphasized that he was not preoccupied with this aspect. "The group of players are fantastic, we played a good game, created numerous chances, and secured the first three points of the competition," Guardiola stated. "However, I'm not focused on goal difference; winning your games will suffice. Today, achieving the first victory allowed us to climb the table slightly higher, which is pleasing."

Guardiola was particularly satisfied with Gundogan's performance, especially after the midfielder's underwhelming display in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday, which the manager described as "perhaps one of the worst I've seen from him in eight or nine years." Gundogan redeemed himself with a stellar performance on Tuesday.

Foden, who scored 27 goals across all competitions last season, has had a slow start to the current campaign, with Tuesday's goal marking his first of the season. "He scored a fantastic goal, simply passing the ball to the post. I always advise, 'pass the ball to the post, not shoot, and you'll have more opportunities,'" Guardiola remarked. "But yes, step by step, he is regaining his form."

McAtee's debut goal for City also brought a smile to the manager's face. "We are extremely pleased with him; he's adorable, and all the players adore him," Guardiola said of the 21-year-old City academy graduate. "McAtee moved exceptionally well in tight spaces, scored a fantastic goal, and had another opportunity. This will be a significant boost for him, and we want to ensure he feels part of the team."
