Pep Guardiola's new one-year contract with Manchester City does not include a break clause that would allow him to leave if the club is relegated from the Premier League due to financial wrongdoing. This decision comes as the club faces over 100 charges brought by the Premier League, which City denies. If found guilty, the potential penalty could include demotion from the top division. Guardiola has extended his contract until summer 2026, but there is no provision for him to exit early if City loses its top-flight status.
Guardiola has previously expressed his willingness to manage City even if they are forced into a lower league. A year ago, when asked about his position if City were found guilty and relegated, he responded, 'A good question. I will answer when I have the sentence.' He emphasized that he would not consider his future based on whether City remains in the Premier League or is relegated to League One.
Since taking charge in 2016, Guardiola has led City to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
