Gulf Medical University, the UAE's premier private medical institution, has taken a substantial step to foster research by announcing the Thumbay International Research grant, which amounts to Dh3 million annually. Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder President of Thumbay Group, emphasized: "Improving the nation's health outcomes is a core objective of Gulf Medical University's Academic Health System. We are convinced that research significantly advances knowledge and practice, aligning with GMU's mission, and these grants will facilitate collaborations both nationally and internationally."

Professor Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, highlighted: "Our strategic objective is to increase our high-quality research output threefold by 2028. We intend to support both local and international researchers in collaborating with our faculty, researchers, and students. The grant will be allocated to researchers with a robust history in precision medicine, drug discovery focusing on cancer immunology, public health issues related to healthy aging, regenerative medicine and diabetes, AI, informatics, digital transformation in healthcare management, health economics, and innovation in health professions education."

Supported by the Thumbay Research Institute of Precision Medicine (TRIPM), Thumbay Institute of Population Health, and The Thumbay Institute of Health Workforce Development, Gulf Medical University promotes a collaborative atmosphere where GMU scientists, faculty, and clinicians, along with international researchers, will synergistically advance knowledge and apply it in practice. Recently, Gulf Medical University received the esteemed "Excellence in Research" award from the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHP), and it has been recognized as one of the UAE's top 10 universities for health research, underscoring its significant contributions to healthcare education, research, and practice. The National Center of Health Research, in partnership with Elsevier, noted GMU's dedication, innovation, and substantial progress in health-related research.

Applications for the Thumbay International Research Grant will be accepted from October 1 to December 31. The grant has an advisory board composed of distinguished researchers and an executive board. Research proposals will be assessed by national and international experts in their respective fields.
