Gulf Medical University, the UAE's premier private medical institution, has taken a substantial step to promote research by announcing the Thumbay International Research Grant, which offers Dh3 million annually. Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder President of Thumbay Group, emphasized that enhancing the nation's health outcomes is a core objective of Gulf Medical University's Academic Health System. He noted, "We firmly believe in the transformative power of research to advance knowledge and practice, aligning with our mission to foster national and international research collaborations."
Professor Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, highlighted the strategic objective to triple high-quality research output by 2028. He stated, "We are committed to supporting both local and international researchers in collaboration with our faculty, researchers, and students. The grant will be directed towards researchers with a proven track record in precision medicine, drug discovery focusing on cancer immunology, public health issues related to healthy aging, regenerative medicine and diabetes, AI, informatics, digital transformation in healthcare management, health economics, and innovation in health professions education."
Supported by the Thumbay Research Institute of Precision Medicine (TRIPM), Thumbay Institute of Population Health, and The Thumbay Institute of Health Workforce Development, Gulf Medical University fosters a collaborative environment where GMU scientists, faculty, and clinicians work synergistically with international researchers to advance and apply new knowledge. Recently, the university received the prestigious "Excellence in Research" award from the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHP), and it has been recognized among the top 10 universities in the UAE for health research, highlighting its significant contributions to healthcare education, research, and practice.
Applications for the Thumbay International Research Grant will be accepted from October 1 to December 31. The grant involves an advisory board of eminent researchers and an executive board, with proposals evaluated by national and international experts.
