Death attributed to a 'treacherous Zionist raid' during a visit for a presidential inauguration

The Palestinian group Hamas announced on Wednesday that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh had been killed in Tehran, Iran.

In their statement, the Islamist faction expressed sorrow over Haniyeh's death, attributing it to a "treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran". Haniyeh had traveled to Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of reformist president Masoud Pezeshkian.
