In the midst of intense rainfall in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the South Central Railway (SCR) has called off 21 additional trains and rerouted 10 others due to water accumulation on tracks at various sites. The heavy downpours have also led to damage on the railway line between Kesamudram and Mahabubabad in Telangana. Train passengers were transported to Kazipet Junction via road. Stranded travelers were transferred using two 'scratch rakes' assembled at Kazipet Junction, according to a bulletin. The railway term 'scratch rake' refers to a train assembled with spare coaches, typically matching the original train. Previously, South Central Railway had cancelled more than 20 trains and rerouted over 30. Moreover, the railways established helpline numbers to guarantee the safety and comfort of individuals. The helpline numbers are: Hyderabad-27781500, Warangal-2782751, Kazipet-27782660, and Khamman-2782885. Educational institutions in flood-affected regions have also been shut down. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, inquiring about the conditions in both states due to the heavy rains and floods. During their conversation on Sunday, the PM pledged all possible support from the Centre to address the challenge. Telangana's Transport and Backward Classes (BC) Welfare Minister Poonam Prabhakar assured passengers that the railway track would be repaired as soon as the floodwaters subsided, and train services would resume. Additionally, he discussed the track restoration with railway officials and directed the district collector and other officials to ensure passengers do not experience any difficulties. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, conducted an on-site inspection of flood-affected areas in Errupalem Mandal in Madhira Constituency of Khammam district to evaluate the situation and supervise relief efforts.
