As heavy rains continue to batter parts of the country for the second consecutive day, valleys are overflowing, and waterfalls are cascading down mountains. The National Centre of Meteorology issued an alert on Friday, October 11, advising residents to exercise caution in these weather conditions and to avoid areas prone to flash floods. The authority also issued a yellow alert for certain regions in the country's east, particularly Fujairah. Refer to the map below for more details:
Storm Centre shared videos on X showcasing flooded roads, heavy showers, waterfalls, and overflowing valleys. Watch the video below to see the magnificent wadis of Masafi now in full flow. Some waterfalls were also observed in the same area. Take a look at the small streams of water winding down the towering mountains. Heavy rains have also led to water pooling on roads, with cars moving slowly through the muddy waters, creating waves in the shallow flood. The heavy rain can also be seen in the video below, drenching the roads and vehicles passing by.
Yesterday, the National Centre of Meteorology reported that it is currently monitoring a low-pressure system south of the Arabian Sea near the western coast of India. This system is expected to deepen into a tropical depression by next week. The NCM alerted residents about this low-pressure system, which is anticipated to move towards the central Arabian Sea and intensify on October 14 and 15. The NCM noted that tropical events often experience rapid and sudden changes and will provide updates on any developments.
Safety Advisory: The NCM advised residents in the eastern and northern parts of the country to stay away from low-lying areas, as these locations are susceptible to flash floods. The weather department also urged residents to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. If driving is unavoidable, residents should be vigilant and cautious. When visibility is reduced, it is crucial to turn on low beam lights. Residents are reminded to follow weather forecasts and comply with any instructions. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police posted on social media, urging motorists to exercise caution while driving in rainy weather. Motorists are also advised to adhere to speed limits displayed on electronic signs and billboards.
