Dutch shipyard Heesen has unveiled the launch of its 50-metre motor yacht, Project Orion. The aluminium-built vessel was successfully launched at the company's facility in Oss, the Netherlands, with delivery expected in spring 2025. Project Orion, also referred to as YN 20750, is a speculative build and joins sisterships Home and Amare II in the water. The yacht's exterior was designed by Frank Laupman in collaboration with his studio, Omega Architects.

"Having immediate access to such exceptional quality, engineered for both style and security, is truly remarkable," commented Ruud van der Stroom, CCO at Heesen. "Project Orion offers a unique chance for discerning clients to acquire a superyacht that embodies the unmatched safety and solidity of Dutch craftsmanship."

The yacht accommodates up to 12 guests across six cabins, featuring an owner's suite on the main deck forward and a full-beam VIP cabin on the lower deck. The design team has maximized the yacht's large windows, low bulwarks, and internal layout to create comfortable yet elegant interiors. "The interior style of Project Orion reflects our research, balancing comfort and luxury," explained designer Cristiano Gatto.

The yacht will feature over 35 types of high-gloss woods, woven leather, marbles, and custom carpets, with a contemporary theme achieved through contrasting colours and shapes. Notable amenities include a 26-square-metre wellness area with a sauna and gym, a day head with a shower stall, and direct access to the fixed swim platform. The 77-square-metre sundeck is equipped with sunpads and a whirlpool forward, offering privacy for guests when docked stern-to in a marina. Removing the loungers transforms the area into a party space with a wet bar, shaded dining table, and relaxation zones fore and aft.

Technical highlights include a shallow 2.1-metre draught, a sub-500 GT enclosed volume, and a hybrid propulsion system promising silent and efficient cruising at 10 knots. At 12 knots, the yacht consumes 98 litres per hour, excluding hotel load, while hybrid mode reduces consumption to just 45 litres per hour at 10 knots. This performance is powered by two MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines, each delivering 600kW, showcasing the efficiency of the yacht's Fast Displacement Hull Form.

The launch of Project Orion coincides with a busy period for Heesen, with 11 projects currently in progress. The Dutch yard recently announced the commencement of construction on another 50-metre superyacht, Project Grace.
