Heriot-Watt University Dubai’s Edinburgh Business School (EBS) has unveiled its first fellowship program aimed at fostering early-career academics in learning, teaching, and research for a two-year duration. Named the Provost’s Fellowship Programme, it seeks to draw ambitious and skilled individuals to the UAE, significantly contributing to the country's aspiration to rank among the top nations in global talent competitiveness metrics.
Professor Fiona Robson, the Head of Edinburgh Business School and School of Social Sciences at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, expressed her enthusiasm for the Provost Fellowship Programme: “Our university has consistently been dedicated to cultivating early-career academics. This program is designed to attract recent PhD graduates with limited teaching experience but a strong desire for an academic career. Fellows will be integrated into one of our three Business School Departments—management, accounting, economics & finance, and marketing & operations—and will collaborate closely with academic teams while receiving robust support and guidance to start their careers.”
Participants will engage in teaching undergraduate students, developing individual research plans, contributing to course content and design, and participating in professional development activities. In exchange, they will receive support in teaching skills, student engagement and assessment, research mentorship, and the opportunity to apply for research funding. The UAE has long valued the role of foreign talent in stimulating economic growth and innovation, and this structured two-year fellowship program aims to position the nation as a premier destination for global talent to propel the knowledge economy.
By incorporating this program into its strategic initiatives, Heriot-Watt University Dubai is not only supporting the UAE's vision but also establishing a standard for academic excellence and professional development in the region.
