Naim Qassem, the leader of the Lebanese group Hezbollah, declared a "divine victory" against Israel in a televised address on Friday, describing it as even greater than the one claimed after their last conflict in 2006. This was Qassem's first public statement since a ceasefire agreement was reached this week, ending over a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. The prolonged conflict resulted in extensive damage to southern, eastern Lebanon, and the suburbs of its capital, with Israeli attacks significantly diminishing Hezbollah's military command.
Qassem further stated that Hezbollah had agreed to the ceasefire with Israel earlier this week "with our heads held high," asserting that those who anticipated the group's weakening had miscalculated. He emphasized the importance of high-level coordination between Hezbollah and the Lebanese army to enforce the ceasefire terms. Additionally, Qassem expressed optimism about the potential election of a new Lebanese president during a parliamentary session scheduled for January 9.
