Histadrut Chief Calls for General Strike Over Hostage Release

Arnon Bar-David urges civilian workers to strike, plans closure of Ben Gurion airport

The leader of Israel's Histadrut labor union has urged a nationwide strike to compel the government to negotiate the release of Israeli hostages still detained by Hamas in Gaza.

Arnon Bar-David appealed to all non-military workers to participate in the strike, and announced that Ben Gurion airport, the primary aviation hub of Israel, will be shut down starting from 8 a.m. (0500 GMT).
