On Tuesday, a union representing Hollywood film and television crew announced a tentative three-year agreement with major studios, which includes pay increases and safeguards against the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), encompassing lighting technicians and costume designers, is set to ratify the deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), representing companies like Disney and Netflix. The agreement stipulates scale-rate increases of 7%, 4%, and 3.5% over the three years, as stated by the union. Regarding AI, the deal includes provisions that prevent the displacement of any employee through the use of AI prompts. In late 2023, the SAG-AFTRA actors union and studios settled a labor agreement, ending a nearly six-month dispute that had paused film and TV production. This contract also featured pay raises, streaming bonuses totaling over $1 billion over three years, and AI usage protections.
