Honda is gearing up for the unveiling of the redesigned Passport and Passport Trailsport later this year, with the latest preview showcasing the Trailsport's rugged design concealed under a camouflage wrap. Honda touts the new trim as its "most adventure-ready and capable Honda SUV yet," a claim that seems fitting given the vehicle's off-road prowess.
While full details are still under wraps, Honda has provided some insights. The SUV will feature a "powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine," likely inherited from the current model, though enthusiasts hope for increased power. The existing 3.5-liter V-6 delivers 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque across the Passport lineup, and the Trailsport could certainly use a boost.
One notable change for the Trailsport is the transmission. A teaser video revealed a high-strength 10-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the current nine-speed transmission. It remains uncertain whether this upgrade is exclusive to the Trailsport or will be applied across the entire range.
The next-gen crossover will also incorporate Honda's second-generation I-VTM4 Torque-Vectoring all-wheel drive system. Honda's teasers highlight rigorous testing across the U.S., including visits to Moab and Michigan's sandy dunes.
Honda plans to encase the familiar engine and upgraded gearbox in more angular sheet metal. The new Passport Trailsport boasts a square-shaped front fascia, drawing comparisons to the Ford Bronco Sport. A previous teaser displayed a bold "PASSPORT" wordmark across the grille, echoing the Ford off-roader's design. The rear of the roof and hatch also appear more vertical on the new crossover, hinting at a cabin redesign that will modernize the interior with the latest features and tech.
The 2026 Passport and Passport Trailsport are set to debut later this year, with Honda planning to reveal both models this fall before their early 2024 market launch.
