Honda has once again raised the price of the popular Civic Type R. This beloved hot hatch now costs $800 more than it did last year, which itself was $1,900 pricier than the 2023 model. The 2025 Type R begins at $46,690, which includes a $1,095 destination fee. Honda does not plan to alter the Type R for 2025, leaving the reason for the additional $800 unclear. It might simply be a result of standard economic factors, but buyers are restricted to only two color options unless they are willing to pay extra for other paint choices. We have contacted Honda to verify the price increase and understand the rationale behind it.
The FL5 Civic Type R was introduced for the 2023 model year at $43,990 before its initial price hike. Honda attributed last year's increase to "higher costs associated with production and logistics." The Civic Type R is equipped with Honda's 315-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which drives the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, the sole available option. Although the Volkswagen Golf R is nearly priced the same, starting at $46,890, the Toyota GR Corolla offers a similar performance and drivetrain setup for a lower price of $37,635, albeit with one less cylinder.
In this highly competitive market, does the Type R badge still hold enough appeal to justify a base price approaching $50,000? Share your thoughts in the comments.
