The upcoming project from Horizon studio Guerrilla Games is reportedly an online game, and the third single-player installment in the series is still some time away. On the Spawn Wave podcast, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier stated, "Horizon Online is [Guerrilla's] next project, not whatever the third single-player game looks like. So that one might be a ways off." Schreier also mentioned that PlayStation's live-service initiative was "no joke" and that this Horizon online project is one of the few that hasn't been canceled or flopped like Concord did.
Sony is heavily investing in the Horizon franchise with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Lego Horizon Adventures. The former enhances visual quality to match the PS5's capabilities and includes accessibility options. The latter is a family-friendly version of the game with a focus on cooperative play. It's also the first PlayStation Studios game to be released on Nintendo Switch.
Sony's live-service initiative has had mixed results so far. Helldivers 2 set records as the fastest-selling PlayStation game ever, yet Concord was taken offline just two weeks after launch due to reportedly poor sales and low player engagement. Naughty Dog also canceled the Last of Us online game last year.
