Architects and designers worldwide, pay attention. The second edition of the ‘House of the Future’ competition, focused on creating innovative, aesthetic, and adaptable homes for the UAE, is now open. The competition was launched by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation and the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme on Saturday.
Organized in partnership with Buildner, the competition outlines specific criteria: designs must respect the UAE’s cultural heritage, withstand environmental changes, utilize sustainable materials, include at least three bedrooms, and be expandable—all within a budget of Dh800,000. The prizes are substantial: the winner will receive Dh500,000, the runner-up Dh200,000, and the second runner-up Dh100,000. Additionally, a special category prize of Dh200,000 will be awarded for the most innovative design using sustainable building materials.
Under the partnership agreement, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation will oversee the implementation of the “House of the Future” competition in collaboration with local and international partners. Meanwhile, the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme will integrate selected designs into its future housing projects and provide technical and engineering support. Winning designs will also be showcased on the Darek platform, offering significant cost and time savings for citizens planning to build their own homes.
The inaugural edition of the “House of the Future” competition, organized with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, garnered significant global interest, receiving 3,500 innovative submissions from 140 countries. Submissions for the current competition are open until 2 June, 2025, and can be made on https://houseofthefuture.ae and https://architecturecompetitions.com/houseofthefuture2.
