Hurricane Beryl intensified into a "potentially catastrophic" Category 5 storm on Monday night, according to the US National Hurricane Center. The NHS stated in a late bulletin that Beryl had reached this dangerous level and that "fluctuations in strength are likely... but Beryl is expected to remain near major hurricane intensity" as it advances towards the Caribbean, specifically Jamaica, as reported by AFP.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team emerged victorious in the T20 World Cup, ending an 11-year drought and defeating South Africa by seven runs. The team has been stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, with Indian media noting that the airport is closed and a curfew is in effect. They are scheduled to depart today via a charter flight, which is expected to land in Delhi at 7.45pm IST on Wednesday.

Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, highlighted that the players' safety is paramount. He stated that only after ensuring their well-being would they consider any celebrations upon their return to India, as reported by Indian media.
