Following the massive success of Despicable Me 4, Illumination and Universal Pictures have quickly announced their plans for the eagerly awaited Minions 3, set to debut in theaters on June 30, 2027.
Brian Lynch, who has previously contributed to the Minions and The Secret Life of Pets movies, will write the script for Minions 3, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The film will again be directed by Pierre Coffin, the experienced filmmaker behind the Despicable Me and Minions series, who also voices the Minions.
Behind the scenes, the production will be managed by Illumination's founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri, and Bill Ryan, who was the executive producer on The Super Mario Bros' Movie. The Minions, introduced over a decade ago, have become legendary characters in animation, propelling the success of Illumination's films.
The combined box office revenue of the Despicable Me and Minions films has reached nearly $5 billion (Dh18 billion) globally, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Notably, the 2015 film Minions holds the distinction of being one of the highest-grossing animated movies ever. Its sequels, Despicable Me 2 and Despicable Me 3, each exceeded $1 billion at the worldwide box office, highlighting the franchise's lasting appeal.
Most recently, Minions: The Rise of Gru broke records with a historic opening weekend during the July Fourth holiday, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. This year's Despicable Me 4 maintained the momentum with a strong $230 million global opening.
