The Indian Consulate in Dubai has issued a warning to expatriates about fraudulent calls purportedly coming from the Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra concerning immigration issues. In a social media post on X and disseminated in various Indian languages on Friday, the mission advised expatriates in Dubai and the northern emirates to exercise caution regarding calls that appear to originate from the Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra telephone number: 80046342.
The consulate stated that the caller may attempt to extort money under the guise of resolving a non-existent immigration issue. 'The consulate does not contact Indian nationals regarding any immigration matters. Please refrain from engaging with such callers and do not transfer any funds,' the Consulate cautioned in the post.
'The consulate does not request private information, OTPs, PIN numbers, or bank details,' it further added. The UAE recently launched a two-month visa amnesty program that commenced on September 1. Additionally, the UAE's Federal Tax Authority has recently alerted residents to email phishing scams by cybercriminals, urging them to remain vigilant.
