Two groups of Indian expatriates have won the $1-million Dubai Duty Free (DDF) grand prize in the last two draws, according to an announcement made on Wednesday.

In the most recent draw held on Wednesday, 55-year-old Dubai resident Thomas Prado's entry was selected, making him an instant millionaire. However, Prado clarified that he will be sharing the grand prize with four family members and colleagues who contributed to the ticket purchase.

When asked about his plans for the money, Prado, who has lived in the emirate for 20 years and has been a DDF participant for 10, was clear about his intentions. "Firstly, I have some debts to settle, but a significant portion will be saved for my children's education, and I will also make some religious donations," he said. "I'm incredibly thankful to God that this came at a time when I needed it most."

Another Indian expatriate, Liv Ashby, also experienced similar good fortune. The 45-year-old was announced as the winner of $1-million in Millennium Millionaire Series 480.

A resident of Dubai since 2005, Ashby purchased two tickets with his two friends, meaning all three will share the prize. "It's unbelievable. This will certainly improve our lives," said Ashby, a father of one and an electrical engineer working for Dubai Airports.

Prado and Ashby, originally from Goa and Kerala respectively, are the 238th and 239th Indian nationals to win the Millennium Millionaire promotion since its inception in 1999.
