Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia received a shout-out from Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt after making history with her Golden Globes nomination. Kapadia earned India's first-ever nomination at the Golden Globes for her film, 'All We Imagine As Light.'
Bhatt congratulated Kapadia on Instagram, writing, 'History is yours,' and tagging the director. Kapadia was nominated for Best Director (Motion Picture) at the 82nd Golden Globes Awards 2025 for her film, which also received a nod for Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language.
The nominations were revealed on December 9 by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut. Actor Rajkummar Rao also extended his best wishes to Kapadia on Instagram, stating, 'Congratulations @payalkapadiafilm This is awesome. All the very best. Rooting for you.'
'All We Imagine As Light' tells the story of Prabha, a troubled nurse who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband, and Anu, her young roommate seeking intimacy with her boyfriend. Their journey to a beach town allows them to confront their desires and emotions.
The film features Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam in pivotal roles. Earlier this year, the project made history by winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Indian film to be featured in the festival's main competition section in 30 years. It also claimed the Best International Feature trophy at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and the Best International Feature at the Gotham Awards 2024.
