It's stunning, and no, Digital Foundry isn't referring to Lost Ark. The tech-analysis team scrutinized Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on consoles, comparing the Series X and Series S versions, and emerged impressed with what developer MachineGames has achieved on these platforms.
Digital Foundry's tech review, authored by John Linneman, highlights that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle sustains 60fps on both consoles (mostly) while integrating ray tracing. Linneman points out that it's uncommon for a console game to deliver open-ended levels, ray tracing, and 60fps simultaneously while maintaining solid performance. However, there are occasional frame-rate drops during cutscenes in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Linneman notes that unlike the developer's Wolfenstein series, all cutscenes in this game are rendered in real time. Yet, apart from this anomaly, the action-adventure title performs 'perfectly on console' from a performance standpoint. In fact, loading times are so swift they're nearly imperceptible, according to Linneman.
The Xbox Series X version of the game boasts superior visuals, typically rendering at 1800p from a visual perspective. In contrast, the Series S version hovers around 1080p or lower, resulting in a blurrier and sometimes blotchy presentation. Additionally, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle exhibits more glow and inferior shadows on the Xbox Series S.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will allow players to shoot puzzles (using their camera) to solve them. The game is already accessible to those who purchased the Premium or Collector's editions. However, Game Pass subscribers must wait until next week to experience this timed Xbox console exclusive (also available at launch on PC).
