Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to deliver an authentic experience of the archeologist's globe-spanning adventures, and as expected, puzzle-solving plays a significant role in the game. Reflecting a core element from the films, developer MachineGames has crafted puzzles that promise to be challenging yet solvable. For those concerned about getting stuck during mandatory puzzle sections, the developer has introduced an innovative solution.
As explained by design director Jens Andersson, players can use Indy's camera in first-person shooting mode to obtain hints that facilitate the completion of ancient puzzles. This feature is accessible through the game's 'Adventure' difficulty setting, which eases the challenge of solving these mysteries. 'We've paid particular attention to these puzzles to ensure they are accessible to all players and support our 'light' Adventure difficulty level,' Andersson told Xbox Wire. 'If you opt for this setting, you'll still enjoy the satisfaction of solving the puzzle, but it won't demand as many steps or be as daunting as the standard Adventure difficulty.'
Essentially, taking photos with your camera provides helpful hints. The more photos you take, the more detailed the hints become. Andersson emphasized that this approach allows players to proceed at their own pace without feeling pressured by constant tips. This aligns with the studio's aim to immerse players in Indy's world, giving them the freedom to explore and experiment with potential solutions.
For those seeking a mental challenge, optional puzzles will be available, requiring significant brainpower as no hints will be provided. Andersson hinted that these puzzles will be particularly tough. Overall, MachineGames aims to make players feel like the legendary archeologist, experiencing a 'primal' thrill from successfully solving a puzzle.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to launch on December 9 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and will be available as a day-one title on Game Pass. For those eager to start early, a three-day headstart is possible, and PC players can also secure the game for just $1.
