Inin Games and Ys Net have revealed that they have acquired the publishing rights for Shenmue 3 from its former publisher, Deep Silver. Inin Games has hinted at further developments for Shenmue 3, stating, "Inin Games is thrilled to guide Shenmue 3 through its next stage." They added, "This partnership signifies the start of a fresh chapter for Shenmue 3, with Inin Games collaborating closely with Ys Net to preserve the series' heritage while broadening its appeal to fans worldwide."
While the specific plans for Shenmue 3 remain undisclosed, there is speculation that the game might expand to additional platforms like Xbox and Switch. Since its release in 2019, Shenmue 3 has been a PlayStation console exclusive, thanks to Sony's financial backing.
In 2022, Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, expressed his intention to make Shenmue 4 more accessible if given the opportunity. Despite Shenmue 3 concluding on a suspenseful note, Suzuki mentioned that a sequel could narrate a story independent of the events in the third installment. Earlier this year, devoted Shenmue fans orchestrated a 15-second ad on a Times Square video billboard to advocate for Shenmue 4, briefly trending the series on Twitter.
Shenmue 3 is presently accessible on PS4 and PC. In GameSpot's review of Shenmue 3, it was noted, "Regrettably, while it captivates as a peculiar relic from a bygone gaming era, it's not particularly enjoyable to play."
