Iran's foreign ministry has demanded an arms embargo on Israel and its expulsion from the United Nations, following a deadly attack in Syria. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei expressed Tehran's strong condemnation of the 'aggressive attack' carried out by the Zionist regime against a residential building in the Damascus area.
The strike on an apartment complex resulted in the death of nine individuals, including a Hezbollah commander, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor. Baghaei called for stringent measures against Israel, proposing 'an arms embargo' and its 'expulsion from the United Nations'.
Regional tensions have escalated since the commencement of the Gaza war in October 2023, which has seen direct confrontations between Iran and Israel. Since the onset of Syria's civil war in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes within the country. Israeli authorities seldom comment on these operations, but have consistently stated that they will not permit their arch-enemy, Iran, to extend its influence in Syria.
