Iran is conducting a military exercise in the north of the country, as reported by an Iranian news agency on Tuesday. This comes as the region prepares for Tehran's declared retaliation against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month.
The drill occurred on Tuesday evening, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm local time, in Iran's Gilan province along the Caspian Sea. It aims to enhance the defensive capabilities of the army's naval forces, according to a local official cited by an Iranian news agency.
This marks Iran's second military exercise in three days. Iran has pledged to retaliate against Israel after the killing of Haniyeh on July 31 in Tehran. Iran holds Israel responsible for the assassination, although Israel has not acknowledged the act. The incident has led to threats of revenge from Iran against Israel, sparking concerns about a broader conflict in the Middle East.
