Iran's reformist president-elect, Masoud Pezeshkian, is set to take the oath of office in parliament on July 30, according to Mojtaba Yousefi, a member of the legislature's presiding board. "The swearing-in ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian will be held on July 30," stated Yousefi, as quoted by the state news agency Irna. Earlier in the week, Yousefi had indicated that the ceremony might take place on August 4 or 5.
It is important to note that Iran's president does not hold the title of head of state; ultimate authority is vested in the supreme leader, a position currently occupied by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for the past 35 years. Pezeshkian emerged victorious in the second-round runoff against ultraconservative Saeed Jalili last Friday. The 69-year-old reformist secured approximately 54 percent of the votes from the 30 million ballots cast.
The election was expedited following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May.
