Iran will pursue any actions that safeguard its interests, according to government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani, who addressed the possibility of direct talks with the Trump administration on Tuesday. "Any actions that protect the nation's interests and uphold the values of the revolution will be pursued by the government," Mohajerani informed a journalist, as reported by the Iranian Student News Agency. There have been no indications that Donald Trump or his team are considering such discussions as he prepares to resume the US presidency. During his previous term, Trump withdrew the US unilaterally from Iran’s 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers in 2018 and reinstated sanctions that significantly affected the Iranian economy.

"Trump's maximum pressure campaign has proven unsuccessful, despite the hardships it has caused. What truly matters are actions, not words, but we advise Trump to reflect on the failures of his previous policies," Mohajerani added. Indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at reviving the nuclear deal were initiated under the administration of US President Joe Biden but have since stalled. Iran remains formally part of the deal but has reduced its commitments to adhere to it due to the US sanctions reimposed on the Islamic Republic.
