Israel's strikes on military sites in Iran seem to have been a deliberate and proportionate response to Tehran's previous attacks, with minimal risk to civilians, according to a high-ranking Biden administration official who spoke late on Friday. The official expressed hope that this would mark the end of direct hostilities between the two nations, noting that the US maintains both direct and indirect communication channels with Iran, through which it has clearly articulated its stance.

"We call on Iran to halt its attacks on Israel to prevent this cycle of violence from escalating further," stated US National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett. Israel had previously disclosed the successful execution of a precise operation against Iran, targeting missile production facilities utilized by Tehran in its attacks on Israel over the past year. The retaliatory strikes have reportedly granted Israel greater operational freedom in Iranian airspace.

"Now, the state of Israel enjoys broader freedom of action in the air over Iran as well," explained military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari during a televised briefing. (With contributions from Reuters and AFP)
