The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that regular infantry and armored units are now participating in ground operations in southern Lebanon. However, they emphasized that these operations will remain limited and localized in scope.
On Tuesday, Israel disclosed that commando and paratroop units had crossed a short distance over the border, marking the first publicly announced ground operation in Lebanon. Subsequently, it was revealed that special forces had been conducting ground raids against Hezbollah targets across the border for months, during which they uncovered tunnels and weapon caches hidden beneath homes.
The inclusion of infantry and armored troops from the 36th Division, which includes the Golani Brigade, the 188th Armored Brigade, and the 6th Infantry Brigade, indicates that the operation has expanded beyond mere limited commando raids.
The military has clarified that the primary objective of the ground operation is to destroy tunnels and other infrastructure along the border. There are currently no plans for a broader operation targeting Beirut or major cities in southern Lebanon.
