The Israeli intelligence community suspects that Iran has made a decision to directly attack Israel and might do so in the coming days, according to an Axios reporter who cited two sources on Sunday.
This potential attack is believed to be a response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in late July, as reported by Axios. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in Haniyeh's killing.
Hamas declared on July 31 that Haniyeh was assassinated early in the morning in Iran, labeling the incident as a 'severe escalation' that would not meet its intended objectives.
This development occurred less than 24 hours after Israel announced it had killed the Hezbollah commander it accused of orchestrating a fatal attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The situation seems to diminish the prospects of an immediate ceasefire agreement in Gaza and has heightened concerns about a broader regional escalation.
