An Israeli strike targeted Hezbollah-affiliated rescue workers in Beirut's southern suburbs, resulting in three injuries, according to a Lebanese security source who spoke to Reuters on Friday.
On Thursday, the World Health Organization reported that at least 28 medical personnel on duty had been killed in Lebanon over the past 24 hours. Israel has been conducting airstrikes and deploying troops to combat Hezbollah, intensifying the conflict.
"Many health workers are not reporting to duty and have fled the areas where they work due to ongoing bombardments," stated Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during an online press briefing, urging for enhanced protections for health workers. "This is significantly hindering the provision of mass trauma management and the continuity of health services," he added.
Dr. Abdinasir Abubakar, WHO's representative in Lebanon, confirmed during a briefing that all the healthcare workers killed in the last day were on duty, assisting the wounded.
