Over 13 people were killed and 57 injured in an Israeli strike near Rafik Hariri University Hospital, according to the Lebanese health ministry on Tuesday. The Israeli military commented on the attack, stating that it targeted a Hezbollah site close to the hospital, which serves as Beirut's primary public medical facility, late on Monday night. However, the hospital itself was not targeted, and its operations remained unaffected. The hospital is situated just a few kilometers from the heart of Beirut.

The conflict in Gaza has spilled over into Lebanon in recent weeks, with Israel conducting a ground campaign and intensified aerial attacks against Hezbollah, which has been firing across the border in support of the Palestinians. Israel asserts that it must dismantle Hezbollah's infrastructure to enable tens of thousands of Israelis to return to their homes, which they abandoned due to Hezbollah's attacks. This offensive has displaced 1.2 million Lebanese from their homes.
