Istanbul Beykent University has secured a remarkable fourth place in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2024, highlighting its achievements in sustainability and internationalisation. The university has distinguished itself among nearly 2,000 institutions from 125 countries, particularly excelling in categories aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, such as 'Zero Hunger', 'End Poverty', and 'Climate Action'. Istanbul Beykent University is keen on establishing a strong presence in the sustainability sector, believing this focus to be essential for its students' future. Sustainability is not only pivotal for global progress but also a major concern for the younger generation, who are increasingly focused on environmental and social matters. By incorporating sustainability into its core mission, Beykent aims to prepare its students to tackle future challenges and attract a global student body, especially from the Middle East.
"We are dedicated to offering our students unparalleled educational opportunities," stated Prof. Dr Volkan Öngel, the rector of Istanbul Beykent University. "Our partnerships and accreditations are geared towards providing the comprehensive educational experience that today’s students need to excel in their careers." The recent partnership with the State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland) is a notable achievement, enabling students to earn dual degrees by studying the first two years at Beykent and the last two at SUNY Cortland. This opportunity is particularly beneficial for students in the New Media program of the Faculty of Communication and the radio, TV, and cinema programme of the Faculty of Fine Arts, allowing their diplomas to be recognized in both Türkiye and the US. The university is also seeking international accreditation with Germany-based ACQUIN and aims to develop strong academic collaborations, especially with institutions in the MENA region, including joint research projects, student and faculty exchange programmes, and joint diploma programs.
"We anticipate a roughly 60 per cent increase in applications from MENA countries as part of our participation in educational fairs," Prof. Dr Öngel noted. Istanbul Beykent University serves as a bridge for international students, particularly those from the Middle East, offering both academic and social support to facilitate their cultural integration and ensure a rich educational experience. Beykent’s commitment to universality, innovation, and continuous improvement is evident in its strategic initiatives and educational programs. The university emphasizes the creation of new knowledge, keeping up with technological advancements, and converting this knowledge into professional skills. Beykent also prioritizes social responsibility and sustainability, aiming to ensure a livable world for future generations.
"All our efforts are aimed at enhancing student satisfaction and educational quality," added Prof. Dr Öngel. "We support students academically and socially through special programs and activities designed to aid their cultural adaptation." Istanbul Beykent University remains committed to nurturing an inclusive and innovative educational environment, ensuring that students worldwide receive top-tier education and professional development opportunities.
